Meet the Staff Mondays – Megan Joyce

Each week we feature “Meet the Staff Mondays” to help our viewers and fellow staff members learn more about the folks who work here at Idaho Public Television. Today we introduce our new social media specialist, Megan Joyce.

Our Carol Beres recently sat down with Megan to learn about this new role on our Communications team. “Right now, I’m learning how to create and post content and basically promote everything that Idaho Public Television does: all of our different programs,” Megan says. “Also, I’ll be dipping my toes into a little bit of graphic design and writing. So, I’m really excited.”

Megan is from Boise, born and raised. “I absolutely love Idaho. I hope I never have to leave,” she says. Recently, she finished college at Boise State University, earning a degree in Integrated Strategic Communications. “I’ve always had a passion for nonprofit work so taking on this role felt like the perfect opportunity to serve my community in a fun, creative way.”

Her husband, who’s a U.S. Marine, is stationed overseas. “We’re almost done; we’re on the home stretch [of his deployment] and I can’t wait to have him back home so we can really start life together,” she adds.

A self-described “crazy dog lady,” Megan’s family has three dogs whom she loves dearly. “I’ve always had lots of pets growing up. Right now, my family has two German wirehaired pointers named Cricket and Calvin, and we have a little mutt named Rudy.” Megan and her husband plan on adopting a basset hound in the near future.

In her downtime, Megan likes to read, do yoga, and try her hand at snowboarding. “I’m self-taught, so I’m not very good,” she laughs. Megan’s a big fan of the City of Trees. “I love that we’re a little big city. We have all the fun stuff: movie theaters, shopping, restaurants. But we’re also an hour from the most beautiful outdoor activities. It’s the perfect combo.” Megan’s go-to dinner is sushi. “My favorite place is Yoi Tomo in downtown Boise,” she adds.

Megan remembers watching PBS Kids and finding a kindred soul in D.W. of Arthur. “I connect with her,” she laughs. “She has a little bit of an attitude and I can relate to that.”
